Specializing in folkloric styles, Maria Aya is known for her authentic Egyptian baladi style, her shaaby love for original arabic night clubs, her deep emotional connection with tarab songs and her sense of humor. She has taught workshops all over Europe,
(Belgium, Paris, Venice, Bari, Moscow, Ekaterinbourg, Istanbul, Estonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Malta, Frankfurt, Prague, Finland, Cyprus) and is one of the featured guest teachers at the prestigious Nile Group festival of Cairo. On April 2009 her students won the first place in group category of the Nile Group Festival.
She has served as a judge in various oriental dance competitions all over the world.
As the director of the oriental charity group “Malema’s Banat”, she has produced lots of theater shows in Greece.
Maria Aya was also the co-director of the greek “Kazafy Troupe” for 2010.
Her last creation in co-operation with the greek artist Tasos Horrus, is the first DVD of Malema's Banat (The Lost Hamsa) where tradition meets visual technology !
